CLASANAL is a package to analyse the operation of any classifier.  The package can be used to analyse and optimise both dry and wet classifiers.

The salient features of CLASANAL are:

  • It estimates classifier performance parameters from a measurement of the particle size distributions of the streams around the classifier, i.e., feeds (can be more than one) and products (coarse and fine).
  • The errors in the "raw data" due to sampling and measurement are "corrected" to make them consistent and error-free.  This is a vital and unique feature of the package and unless this is done, the results will be meaningless.
  • The following classifier performance parameters are predicted:
  1. The circulating load, CL
  2. The direct bypass fraction, which is not subject to any classification action, Rf.
  3. The cut particle diameter of the classifier, d50
  4. The sharpness index of cut, SI.
  5. The complete classifier efficiency curve, or the Tromp curve.
  • A plot of the experimental and calculated classifier efficiency curve.
  • It is applicable for both one feed-two product (typically the case of fresh feed entering the grinding mill) and two feed-two product (typically the case of fresh feed entering the classifier) cases.

The package CLASANAL is thus useful to analyse the performance of any classifier for any set of operating conditions and thus achieve optimisation.  It is an especially useful tool to optimise closed-circuit grinding systems, turboseparators, cyclones, multiclones, ZUB-separators, O-sepa separators, vibratory screens, hydrocyclones, and a host of other classifiers.  The package is also extremely useful to designers of separators and closed-circuit grinding systems.

The package SIZEANAL is especially useful as a companion software to CLASANAL.  The size distributions predicted by SIZEANAL are useful as input data to CLASANAL.
